Transform any drawings, photos and sketches into 3d printable files with MakerBot’s Shape Maker Tool
MakerBot introduced a new iPad app alias Shape Maker tool that is an upgraded part of the MakerBot’s free PrintShop App. By applying this newest 3d modeling app, the users will be able to transform their drawings, photos, sketches as well as screen captures into the 3d printable files.

With the in-built camera of the app, the users can snap a photograph from any drawing or sketch (the drawing or sketch must be bold with higher resolution). As soon as the photograph is taken, the users can use the option to extrude the shape according to their preferred depth.

This new 3d design tool will facilitate the users to produce 3d designs out of any 2d drawing easily and make them 3d printable.

This 3d printing app will be a great resource for classrooms which apply a 3D printer as part of their STEM curriculum.

The new Shape Maker Tool is accessible in iTunes for download on iPad.

The users can download it from MakerBot.com/PrintShop

3-Sweep - An exclusive software to extract 3D objects from a single photograph

A group of computer science professors from Israel known as Ariel Shamir, associated with the Interdisciplinary Center at Herzliya, Daniel Cohen-Or and Tao Chen of Tel Aviv University, develop 3-Sweep. It is still in beta stage.
3-Sweep is an interactive 3D modelling technique that can quickly gather information from several photographs and transforms the objects into 3D models instantly by applying a few clicks.

The software applies the same techniques useful to view 3D objects in 2D photos. The users can just draw a line transversely each of its three basic axes to recognize the 3d object. It can then highlight & snaps to the object along with its outlines and shapes and facilitates the user to rotate, adjust and move it around in three dimensions. While performing these functions, the software preserves the parallelism, concentricity and orthogonality.
