How to make naturalistic pool water design in v-ray for sketchup

Shape Bender tool creates Curved Metal Panels in SketchUp

SketchUp is made to create different models and designs, the tools are perfect to help in 3D modeling, similarly Shape Bender is another extension which help to create Curved Metal Panels

In this article, we are again going to discuss about the method of creating and bending a series of linear metal panels into a curving serpentine shape with the SketchUp extension Shape Bender. Justin Geis has explained this tutorial through his video we are just going to give you a detailed written description of the tutorial.

Shape Bender: This extension can create a shape which is made to bend but that must be in group or component. After grouping the shape, users have to select a single horizontal line that can be used as the ground to bend; next select the curve that the shape will bend to match the existing one. After that, the shape will show a grid and preview of the place where the object is going to transform to. Then, press ‘UP’ Arrow key to move the orientation of the bend. Path: Plugins > Chris Fullmer Tools> Shape Bender or select it from a Shape Bender Toolbar.

To create the Curved Metal Panels, two extensions are needed: 1) Shape Bender, 2) Weld.

Note: SketchUp 2019 version doesn’t support Shape Bender extension, so users must do it in SketchUp 2018.

After entering in the SketchUp Home page, users have to create wide and long rectangle and click inward it which will take a shape of metal piece. Next this shape needs to be grouped and given a name. This shape may need to copy many times to give a cured look, users can use move tool and copy the object and paste it multiple time with a distant space. As Shape Bender extension allows to bend any object using a base line and a target line, so users need to fix these two lines first. The base line must be drawn on Red axis, the line is then need to copy and paste the line to make it a target line; it will be known as another base line. Using Arc Tool users can make the half of the line a barrier, using Rotate tool the line can be bended as a curve line. Previously the shapes were copied and pasted which made them look alike a sheet, this sheet need to be in group and shape bender tool will curve this group shit along the curve line.

"Bending an object in SketchUp”

David Richards always works on different tools from different SketchUp extensions to create some differentiates in his models and this time he made a tutorial on Radial Bend tool.

About David Richards: He is a Biomedical Equipment Technician and provides anesthesia and Respiratory equipment for the largest medical facility in southeast Minnesota. Beside that he works in his garage woodworking shop where he has made various wooden items, he is a regular SketchUp user who uses it for designing projects, working out joinery details and solving the order of operations in time. He has made a various range of SketchUp models like tiny parts for medical equipment, large architectural and other construction projects. Most of his models are furniture and other woodworking related things, besides being a SketchUp users and woodworker; he helps other woodworkers around the world to use the program through his blogs in ‘Fine Woodworking’ which has become very popular among the woodworkers.

David Richards has drawn a SketchUp model and going to show his viewers the tip of bending any object in it; at first he drew a SketchUp model while creating plans for Michael Robbins’s Contemporary Desk that is marked in the current issue of Fine Woodworking Magazine. The desk mixes practical utility with elegant details like its slender base with turned legs and curved side profiles; the construction is divided into two parts that are top and base. The joinery for the top section is elementary mortise and tennos; the two-part desktop is part solid wood and part plywood and covered with leather to make a blotter. The base with its turned legs is a straightforward frame secured by bridle joints. This leather on the blotter surface is represented by creating a component at first that is twisted up at one corner.

The work of this bending is easily done with the help of the Radial Bend tool in the FredoScale extension and here is a little detail of that work.

Radial Bend tool: Radial Bend deforms an object by radically bending the deformation axis which is perpendicular to the base reference plane. The radial bend is applied to the selected end of the deformation axis while the opposite end stays fixed and when the mouse moves, the shape radically bends in either a clockwise or counterclockwise direction as per a circular bending track that is displayed and is subdivided in degrees. The orientation of the bend may be rotated around the deformation axis and done through the rotation handle attached at the bottom of the axis. This control is activated by clicking on it and an extra rotational track is shown to assist users with the positioning of the rotation.

In this model, David started working from the base for the blotter; he took a component, copied it pasted outside the component. Next he took Push/Pull tool to give the component a little thickness; next he thought took the curve tool to start the guideline to set the arbitrary. Now it is the time to bend the object, so he took the Radial Bend tool from FredoScale extension, placed it on the object, here users can set the number of faces they want in the curved object, next he drag the cursor along the guideline click on the corner and bring that corner up to make it a bended corner.

"Animating Sections with Scenes in SketchUp ”

SketchUp’s two specialist Aidan Chopra and co-author Rebecca Huehls has written the book the SketchUp for Dummies where the way of Animating sections is discussed.

SketchUp or Google SketchUp is mainly a3D modeling computer program that is used for a broad range of drawing applications used by architects, interior designer, landscape architects, civil and mechanical engineers, film and video game designers also. SketchUp can be getting as a freeware version named SketchUp Make and a paid version with many more extra benefits called SketchUp Pro. SketchUp is software from Trimble Company and there is an online library of free model congregations and 3D Warehouse to which users can add other models; besides that, the program has drawing layout functionality with variable ‘styles’, supports third-party ‘plug-in’ programs hosted on the Extension Warehouse to supply other abilities and enables placement of its models in Google Earth. As SketchUp users are most of architects, designers, builders, makers and engineers etc. who works hard to give a nice shape to our physical world, they need great tools to do the work. SketchUp is in mission to bring their best to produce some great tools for drawing as drawing is the key thing of the SketchUp users. They draw to search ideas, to identify the things and to show other people their work that they do with love and love to build; SketchUp understands it truly and trying to improve their software day by day.

Animating Sections with Scenes:

Uniting section views with scenes for creating an animation is a useful and impressive way to exhibit the SketchUp models and it is a basic idea that scenes are used to create animations where the section planes can move inside the models. Here some reasons which are effective to use this technique, such as:

  • If user has a building with many levels then he/she can create an animated presentation that will show a cutaway plan view of every level.
  • An animated section plane is also used to “get inside” in the models easily and it is an easier act than simply hiding certain parts of it.
  • To show a relationship between the plan and section views for a project with the help of an animated section plane helps the users to discuss the concept of different architectural views to 3D beginners. Some basic steps are listed here that will help to create a basic animation:
  • First of all a section plane has to be added to the created model.
  • Next a scene has to add to the same model.
  • Now another section plane has to add to the model and it can be done in two ways: 1) the Section Plane tool can be used to create a brand-new Section plane and it is fur most the simplest option that makes it right choice for beginners. 2) Or users can use Move tool to copy an existing section plane but make sure that the new section plane is in the active mode which will cut through the model. In case it is inactive, context-click the section plane and select Active Cut from the Context menu.
  • Then another scene has to add to the model which remembers the active section plane.
  • At last the users can view their added scenes through the animations; here one can see an animated section cut as SketchUp transitions from one scene to the next. To enable scene transitions chose Window> Model Info> Animation Panel> check in the Scene Transitions box.

VR Sketch – A new wing has been added to extension warehouse

Maciej F is the developer of the newest sketchup plugin alias VR Sketch. It is well matched with sketchup 2017 and sketchup 2018. It is only compatible with windows platform.

It can be used for editing and visualizing architectural models from SketchUp in virtual reality. HTC Vive with SteamVR installed should be necessary for present setup.-

The trial version of the plugin functions for 2 weeks. After that a paid version is required with free access for 2 weeks.

The current version allows the users to view and edit directly in VR and the users can use it to deal with large models. The link from SketchUp files is instant and it is possible to edit both on the monitor and in the VR simultaneously.

The present version is not intended for photo realism and rather features on having a cartoonish but well performing mode that allows you to edit SketchUp files 100s of megabytes in size.

CutList Bridge 4.4 is available in extension warehouse

Joe Zeh has developed CutList Bridge 4.4. This newest sketchup extension is compatible with SketchUp 8, SketchUp 2013, SketchUp 2014, SketchUp 2015, SketchUp 2016, SketchUp 2017, SketchUp 2018.

This sketchup ruby extension can be used to export a cut list to Excel, OpenOffice Calc and CutList Plus fx.

It expands the characteristics of components to contain such things as the material type employed in its milling, the species or material name, re-sized dimensions, shop method tags, the sub-assembly to which it belongs and lots other.

These attributes are connected to the component and preserved in the model file. The user can export these characteristics to either a .cwx or .csv file. CWX files are opened in CutList Plus fx Gold or Platinum editions with simple clicks on the .cwx file(needs version 12.3 or higher).

CSV files are imported to CutList Plus fx (applying a Parts import Wizard), Microsoft Excel, Open/Office Calc or any spread sheet application that supports CSV importing. All of these applications will generate a cut list but CutList Plus fx will also generate a materials list, optimized cutting diagrams, inventory control and project costing.

The most vital feature of CutList Bridge is that it preserves all components’ material and milling attributes in the SketchUp model file.

The user should retain only one file of a design and doesn’t require for synchronizing other files when modifications to design are done. The CWX, CSV, CutList Plus fx, Excel or OpenOffice Calc files are reproduced with just four mouse click

How to Create Lattice Texture in Vray for Sketchup

create Thinking Particles System
go to modifiers panel click on properties
from TP system create Group and name it Active
create two Dynamic set and name it 1- Birth 2- Run
in birth dynamic set create matter waves from operators
