Features of Sandbox Bonus Tools 2.0.2

The Sandbox Bonus Tools is developed by Cadman to include the functionality of the Sandbox tools. It simplifies the process for working with terrain all through the design stage.

This newest extension is compatible with SketchUp 2014, SketchUp 2015, SketchUp 2016, SketchUp 2017, SketchUp 2018, SketchUp 2019.

The Project Mesh tool shows a regular surface grid onto a selection. The new surface grid belongs to a quad face mesh and is well matched with quad face tools. Choose the surface or objects upon which a grid mesh should be arranged.

1. Provide the size required for each square of the mesh grid. Put a negative number (except units) to subdivide the extents of the grid by that number.

2. Indicate the direction, the mesh is required to be projected onto (Top, Bottom, Front, Back, Left, Right).

3. Provide a number for a shard factor.

Since a grid is draped over an unequal shape, the length of each triangle is expanded greater than the base square size indicated in step #1. With more stretch the projection surface or objects become steeper. The shard factor specifies a multiplier of the base square size away from which the triangle will be removed from the draped grid. The default is 0 (no triangle should be removed despite of edge length). A number of 2.5 is a standard limit for steep slopes. For most landscape drapes, depart the shard factor at the default of 0.

The Foam Core tool performs sequential push pull operations upward on selected faces, increasing each following push-pull with the user specified increment distance.

When a negative number is provided, the tool will push the contour surfaces (levels) downward. This tool forms a ‘layer cake’ version of terrain out of contour surfaces.

The Hoola Hoop tool forms Contours around a selection set of surfaces and objects. Choose the objects or surface, then

1. Put the type of contouring to be executed: either Interval or Number. Interval belongs to the contour interval. Number sets the total number of contour lines to produce equally across the entire depth of the surface or objects.

To get more details or purchase the extension, go through the following link extensions.sketchup.com

2. Put a Value. For Interval put a distance, for Number put the total number of contours required.

The Drop Downward tool places (drops) every item of a selection of groups and components downward in the blue direction onto the model. Choose the objects to drop downward. All through the drop, the elected objects will not drop onto one another. The objects will land on the first part of the model they run into.

The Set to Elevation tool shifts all objects in a selection to a symmetrical elevation. Choose the objects to shift. Then provide the elevation value to where it is required to shift them.

Using Tape Measure Tool in SketchUp

The Tape Measure Tool in SketchUp is used in SketchUp to scale or measure between the points and also it is useful to create construction lines. This construction lines are work as referral geometry in SketchUp. Users can also re-size any group or the whole model by using this Tape Measure Tool. In SketchUp, along with Tape Measure Tool, the Protractor tool and the Measurements box are allowed to model accurately different things, those are:

a. Tape Measure Tool is used to scale a distance and fix exact guide lines or points.
b. The Protocol Tool can use to scale angles and fix an exact angled guide line.
c. The Measurements box waits to accept an exact value after using any kind of tool.

Under the Tape Measure Tool the things can find are:

a. Getting Started Toolbar
b. Construction Toolbar
c. Large Tool Set Toolbar
d. Tools menu on the menu bar
e. Tools palette

This article will describe all the way to use Tape Measure tool, its speed and working areas and how easily it can make a perfect modeling.

1. Getting started with the Tape Measure tool: The Tape Measure Tool is found in the Tools menu of SketchUp or can get through some toolbars such as Getting Started, Construction or large Toolset Toolbar. Without all this there is the simple way to start the Tape Measure Tool by using the shortcut key T. After entering the tool the cursor automatically get the shape of a Tape Measure icon which has 2 measuring modes. The Guide Create mode will automatically activated after launching the tool and can be seen by the cursor’s figure. Users can also switch between Guide Create and Measure mode by using the CTRL key.

2. Using Measure Mode in SketchUp: This method is useful in accounting the measurements from a point to various points, ESC key is used to create new measuring point. This mode scales the whole model and using SketchUp’s Inference engine with arrow keys can change the measuring direction. Measure Mode can resize the whole model and a single object also. To resize them a group or component has to edit at first and then using the Tape Measure tool in Measure mode can resize the edited object.

3. Using Guide Create mode in SketchUp: This mode in the Tape Measure Tool is used to plan guide lines and points in SketchUp to firm draw in the workspace and various methods can apply for guiding drawings where the drawing can be done. Such as, A) infinite Guide Lines; it generally creates for gliding on an edge in SketchUp and can be created with double click. The distance between the lines can be measured only by entering a value against it. These lines can be arranged using array commands and create by placing a guide at the minimum distance and using the Move tool for copying the guide. B) Guide points; Guide lines can be ended with a construction point, at first an endpoint is picked after that measured direction and length will pick up. The endpoint is like the forcing tool into guide point mode that can create guide point at anywhere. Updated SketchUp’s inference engine knows every points to infer and combining with the Tape Measure Tool with it users can create all kind of guide lines and points in a moment.

4. Deleting guide lines in SketchUp: The Select tool or the Erase tool help to remove the guide lines and points and areas.

5. Managing and deleting guide lines in SketchUp using Extensions: Using any kind of extension can make the way of managing and deleting guide lines simple and TIG’s Construction Line Delete via Context extension is available. It is useful as it can expand SketchUp with added more options by a right click on an existing Guide line. But this extension need to install in SketchUp and can found in the SketchUp’s ExtensuionStore. To install it got to the Search feature and type guide, the extension will appear with an install option just click on it and it will be installed. Installing and using this extension can give users access to more delete and layer management options to Guide lines and points through a context menu. There are more options find here to manage the guide lines and points.

How to Use Split and Join Tools in SketchUp

Split and join tools in SketchUp offer you the known applications correctly described by their names themselves. In this 3D application, LayOut Split and Join tools offer the easiest way to design a complex shape by splitting and joining. A few steps are there that help you do the needed cut and join on your design. Generally, split tool is for tearing a design apart while the joining tool joins one or more shapes together.

Steps to follow for splitting a line or a shape:
• Select the Split tool by selecting tools > split.
• Click on the areas of lines or edges you want to split.
The splitting parts of the design can be dragged or dropped anywhere in the design. The picture below rightly presents how to use split tool for your design.

The best thing is that you can use both Split and Join tools together to design a complex shape. If you want to use the tool in the best way, you have to go to the core and learn the basic part of this application.
Follow the steps if you want to join two or more shapes together:
• Use the Select tool to drag the shapes and drop them so that they overlap each other. As it is shown in the Figure 1 (Callout 1).
• Click the Split tool.
• For Shared Vertex, you need to click on every overlap points. On hovering over the split cursor over these points, a red X and an Intersection ToolTIP will appear.
• Use the erase tool to delete the unnecessary part of your design before giving your model a final touch.
• Click the join tool to glue the split part to make a complete model.
• Click on edge of each piece when the Join tool cursor is active. The color fills in the shape with every click. The fill color will be the color of the shape you click first. See Callout 4.

The Split tool has many applications in our SketchUp design. Bending is another thing that is a popular feature for designers. Bending defines the curves of your design instead of the split points. For designing different complex structures, bending will prove a great tool. LayOut Path Editor is the tool that you need to bend the lines and shapes in SketchUp.

Place Shapes Toolbar is the newest Sketchup extension

SketchUp is expert in creating variant tools for handling the shapes and designs smoothly for the designers and architects. This time they have launched Place Shapes Toolbar. It can be applied in the different versions of SketchUP. In this article the work of this toolbar is described. The readers can assume this toolbar by reading various descriptions of the tool. It is easy and good for creating designs for both big and small fields. Its use and tips are also given here. Let’s have a check on it. There is also a link is given for videos and tutorials.

Place Shapes Toolbar is a new Sketchup plugin invented by Alex Schreyer. This brand new Sketchup plugin supports different versions of Sketchup like SketchUp 8, SketchUp 2013, SketchUp 2014, SketchUp 2015, SketchUp 2016 and SketchUp 2017.

This extension has a toolbar with some menu items that is used for setting simply different common 3D shapes or geometric primitives. SketchUp’s navigate tools allow users for creating any shapes without too much effort. With the use of this toolbar, the users can accomplish fast “solid-based” modeling for dealing with added and subtracted primitives who can produce a precisely watertight object that is ideal for 3D printing. Prior for changing the shapes, anyone can opt for a general unit like foot, inch, mm, cm, m etc.

This toolbar is a good starter shape set for the new users and the kids who want to play in 3D modeling but don’t have any interest to learn.

Usage: At first show to the “Place Shapes” toolbar and click on the shape that has to be placed. Or the other way is to apply the Draw menu’s items. Most of the shapes will adjust themselves in the basis of the underlying geometry. Arranging various shapes is also possible by going to the select tool or pressing the space bar or the ESC key after finishing.

After placing a shape, move and scale tools can be applied for moving and functioning on the shape. In the case of failing work of any shape as per the requirement right click on it and choose ‘unglue’. In the case of placing any shapes, they all stick to the elementary geometry. Exploding a shape to work with its raw geometry is also possible only by applying the right-click menu. While selecting the base unit from the dialog, all the following placements will get that unit. The items that are already arranged don’t need scaling. This is helpful for modeling small stuff like 3D printing or large stuff like buildings.

Tips for working on this tool:

a. At first turn on the X-Ray face style to enable snapping for the hidden points.
b. Go to View>Hidden Lines to allow the hidden lines visible for more precise snapping.
c. These shapes fit well with the SketchUp Pro’s Solid Tools
d. For adding Text to any of the shapes use the 3D TextTool.
