SketchUp or Google SketchUp is mainly a3D modeling computer program that is used for a broad range of drawing applications used by architects, interior designer, landscape architects, civil and mechanical engineers, film and video game designers also. SketchUp can be getting as a freeware version named SketchUp Make and a paid version with many more extra benefits called SketchUp Pro. SketchUp is software from Trimble Company and there is an online library of free model congregations and 3D Warehouse to which users can add other models; besides that, the program has drawing layout functionality with variable ‘styles’, supports third-party ‘plug-in’ programs hosted on the Extension Warehouse to supply other abilities and enables placement of its models in Google Earth.

As SketchUp users are most of architects, designers, builders, makers and engineers etc. who works hard to give a nice shape to our physical world, they need great tools to do the work. SketchUp is in mission to bring their best to produce some great tools for drawing as drawing is the key thing of the SketchUp users. They draw to search ideas, to identify the things and to show other people their work that they do with love and love to build; SketchUp understands it truly and trying to improve their software day by day.

Trimble has recently updated SketchUp with some new features which are also very easy for the beginners as Trimble has focused this time on some important workflows in this new version. Users can easily feel many big improvements to mange section planes, extorting model data into collected reports for takeoffs and making even better drawings from the SketchUp models. Besides that, Trimble has brought their new web modeler out of beta and introduced SketchUp Free for everyone.

updates about SketchUp Pro and SketchUp Free

SketchUp Free is fast, stable and capable; Trimble has taken the motto to give access of free 3D modeling in the world for everyone and SketchUp Free is made to be used by lots of people everywhere. This new technology composes the middle of SketchUp into a web browser and is behind SketchUp for Schools which is one of the most famous apps in G Suite for Education; that’s why the new web applications can divide the DNA of the desktop modeler to provide better performance and stability of SketchUp for everyone and everywhere. In today’s 3D world of design, most of the designers and architects are familiar in using SketchUp’s desktop softwares such as SketchUp Pro or SketchUp Make; as a help they had also released a support update for SketchUp make which may be the last update for Trimble’s free desktop version.

Client Communication: the key to better projects

Delivering SketchUp models to the clients through right communication is important for projects and Nick shows in his video. Communication doesn’t stand only about speaking to and hearing from people, but more than that it is about understanding the total message. A good communication depends on many things like the language will use, delivering message with the tone of respect, the feeling and the body language at the time of talking. These all play important roles in every communication process and can also deliver a confused and wrong message if they used in a wrong way.

In every organization, project manager has the main role of communicating with others such as clients, co-workers, advisors, dealers etc and also responsible to present the right message to the right person at the right time.

Communication is a symbol of the “transfer of information form one individual to another”. It is seen that the failure reason of the projects basically is the miscommunication, most of the project deliverers fail to clearly understand the vision and the project’s success criteria. This vision should be strongly communicated to each shareholder and team member and the whole team must be able to understand the total result for working together for a common goal.

A poor communication can certainly damage any project or relationship and break down the strength of the project. For a good communication one has to be knowledgeable about every detailed and updated thing about a project so that he could deliver the right information to the clients or shareholders.

It is not that this problem happens only in some cases or happens in certain time; it has become a regular problem and harming the growth of the projects. A right communication to all the shareholders in a clear and actual manner is the capital thing as it clears about the kind of the delivered messages.

When you are in the field of architecture or design, communication plays the most vital part in every project and through 3D communication tools it has become easier to communicate with various people over a project at a time. A rich communication with full of right knowledge and information makes a project more successful and in SktechUp it is also important.

SktechUp is not only a tool for modeling and designing it also known for its sharing capacity in 3D. Often designers make models and show the idea through the 3D communication system to their clients or other teammates as a presentation or for opinion. A good representation of the works of models, their designing, capacity and way of working will become the reasons of success and the bad one cause failure.

To improve the communication way Nick Sonder, a member of SketchUp team has guided everyone with his wonderful SketchUp models and LayOut documents. Nick himself is a brilliant commuter and makes a good communication with the clients throughout the whole process and with the help of his friend, Houzz he had organized design ideas and collaborated with others. He has some brilliant concepts and produced a video tutorial as guide for all.

Clipping and missing faces in SketchUp

Both SketchUp Make and SketchUp Pro are struggling in fix an issue in SketchUp called Clipping and missing faces in SketchUp tool. While revolving around the model, the effects can be seen like a section simply attached with the view at a fixed distance and sometime objects can also appear or disappear in a shaking mode while zooming in the model.

The geometry of the model shakes and glitters while revolving the model and it splinters and extra sections appear while operating the model. This situation is called Camera Clipping Plane which does not make any damage to the model.

These kinds of problems naturally appear when geometry sometime has been placed very far from the model origin that means the imported formation was copied form survey or GIS data. There are many models which are hundreds and even thousands of miles far from origin and SketchUp’s display technology was established more for distances like in Feet or Meters. Here are some situation described that show the situations where the kind of problems found:

1. When the field of view has been set up widely, the FOV or the field of view can be adjust between 1 to 120 degrees and it will easily change the FOV by pressing the Shift key to zoom in or out. This can be changed by going to Camera > Field of View and by typing the desired field of view in the measurement toolbar.

2. Secondly it can be happened the angled camera mode is turned off, to change the mode click on the Zoom Extents button. After that the camera will zooms out to show the total model and the clipping will be removed.

3. Another situation is that when the scale of any model is very small or very large. To prevent the problem just change the scale while working.

• When the model stays far away from the origin point where the red, green and blue axes interest, then the model can be moved to the origin point and this follows some steps:

1) select all the geometry of the model by typing Control+A or Command+A or only by simply clicking and dragging the Select tool beyond the geometry.
2) The move tool can be changed from Tools > Move.
3) Now take a corner point of the selected geometry of the ground plane and start to move the selected geometry. Now type [0, 0, 0] in the Measurement Toolbar which causes the selected point can move to the origin point.

• The clipping generally comes after a DWG import and happened with a combination of the points and while moving and checking the scale, following some proper steps all the geometry can be seen in the model. The three steps are:

1) All the layers in the Window menu need to turn on, to do this, click on the Window > Layers menu.
2) Geometry should be unhidden by using the Edit > Unhide all command.
3) Now again hide the geometry by clicking on View > Hidden Geometry.
NOW CLICK ON Camera > Zoom extents for making geometry visible and the full extents of the model also be seen.

All these fixing problems are described in SketchUp through detailed video.

How to Select a Part of a Model in SketchUp

3D modeling on SketchUp involves easy steps to help you draw a perfect model. The tools and extensions save your time and keep the designing process smart and simple. SketchUp, like other 3D design applications, follow the common processes at the initial level of your design. ‘Selection’ is one of the basics and most necessary features designers should be well-acquainted with. The content brings to you different applications of the ‘selection’ tool for designing a perfect model.

To move anything in your SketchUp model, you have to select that object first. Through selecting the model, you inform the SketchUp that you are working on that portion of your design. You can rotate, copy, move or anything want after selecting the model.

Things you need to know for using the ‘selecting’ tool:

Selecting entity in your SketchUp: You must know that every single thing of your SketchUp model is an entity that is also categorized in a few names as per their appearance. Elements, objects and annotation are the three basic parts of the selection.

Elements are similar to edges and faces in a design and they together make an object. An object should contain a separate name and meta data that defines it. Annotations are texts, guides and selection planes. The remaining things other than elements and objects are called annotation.

Selecting a thing (lines or faces) is not easier, though. Experts have also taken time to know how to select only edges in SketchUp. If you, too, are wondering how to do this, go to the wire frame mode and select the object by dragging. Since only edges will appear in wire frame mode, it will be easier for you to select an edge.

Click to select things you want: The easiest way to select an object is to click on that particular thing while you are using the select tool. To select more than one object, you need to hold the shift key and click the objects you want. Knowing the usage of shift key in selection will help you learn further about SketchUp. You can add and subtract both with the shift key.

The entities look differently as per their character: After selecting an edge, a face or an object, you find a few changes in its appearances. Selected edges transform into blue, selected faces covered with blue dots, and selected groups and components are surrounded by a blue box – these changes are visible by designers.

Double or triple click for the selection: Double click or triple click can be termed as the SketchUp select tool shortcuts. Double clicking an edge allows you to select edges and adjacent faces both. Through this, you can also select connected lines in SketchUp very well. Triple clicking an edge or a face selects the entire model.

Select many at once in SketchUp: When you need to select many things in your SketchUp design, Selection boxes will help you. Such selection is two types – window selection and crossing selection. Window selection is called when you click and drag from left to right. This way, you can select things inside your selection box.

Cross selection is when you click and drag right to left. It selects anything that touches your selection box.

Knowing properly the application of selection tool will resolve complicated problems like how to select edges and more. The basic of the selection tool is to move an object in your model.

CleanUp3 and Solid Inspector2 in SketchUp

Introduced by Thomas Thomassen, both tools are important to erase the errors of your design. While CleanUp tools delete the unnecessary components and reduce the size of your design smartly, Solid Inspector checks the problems existed in your solid models. These tools are also useful to make your SketchUp design 3D print-ready. They easily erase the problems of your design without the intervention of your calculation and measurements. The content describes these tools in a brief way.

CleanUp3: The tool works best in reducing the heavy size of your SketchUp design in a logical way without making any visible change. Unnecessary and hidden elements generally put loads on the size of the model. The feature finds out these objects and cleans up smartly.
To open the tool:
Plugins > CleanUp
The benefits of using this extension:

• Eliminates unused items
• Deletes hidden geometry and duplicate faces
• Remove lonely edges and edge materials
• Merge identical materials
This extension is particularly being used for 3D printing for your SketchUp model. if your design contains an array of models and shapes, this tool deletes the hidden elements brilliantly to make the download of your model easier.

Solid Inspector2: Solid Inspector goes by its name and detects the problem areas of a group or a component that prohibit them being the solid manifold. This extension needs SketchUp 2014 or the newer version to run smoothly.
Application: Click the group or components to find out the holes and click fix button to solve the issues in a hassle-free way.
To Open the Extension:
Toolbar> Solid Inspector2

These tools perform well when it comes to detecting the underlying problems of your 3D design in SketchUp. They create an effortless platform for you where you can delete unnecessary objects to improve the style of your design.

How to Create and Use SketchUp LayOut

Working with SketchUp LayOut allows you to maintain a smooth flow of designing. The options and features creatively carve out your designing instinct. When you open SketchUp LayOut, two dialog boxes will generally appear – Tip of the Day and Getting Started.

Getting Started Dialog box contains different templates of your LayOut document, and it comes up with options required for adding features and functions easily to your design. There is a template always on which a Layout is based. Storyboards and title blocks are also there in LayOut. Other than this, you can also prepare a layout adding your preferences.

SketchUp lets you customize every detail in template so that you can enjoy a spontaneous designing. After choosing a template, you can modify features like paper size, margins, and units. Once you modify every necessary detail in the template, you save it giving a particular name of your file.

Choosing a template: For every new LayOut document, you need to select a template from the Getting Started dialog box. There are options like graph paper, plain paper and story board that assist in you choosing the right one. You can also change the template later while designing from the template setting box. The list below mentions details of the content.

Select a default template: there are three categories carrying templates with different measurement and looks. Under the ‘New’ tab in the Getting Started dialog box, you will get options:

• Paper: common paper sized templates are listed in the category. You can easily get letter landscape or A4 size as per your requirement. Papers have portrait or landscape orientations and they have also come up with grid paper and plain paper options.
• Storyboard: if you are designing for a storyboard, you can get three preset boxes for defining the functions like angles, features and views of a 3D model.
• Titleblock: there are several titleblock types to choose from. Common style includes modern, rounded, simple and traditional forms.

Select your own template: My Template option helps you work on your preferred template option. The template that you create is the foundation of your LayOut project.

Open an existing document: this feature brings many advantages for your designing purpose. You can easily open an existing document in LayOut.

Paper Setting: Modification is a common step after creating your LayOut. The Document Setup dialog box contains the needed options allowing you to make new changes as per your designing concept.

Paper Setting: In the document setting dialog box, you find options that help you change the document area you are working on. The most common paper setting is done by modifying an area’s size, orientation, margins, colors, and rendering quality. Below is an introduction of the features in a paper setting dialog box.

• To customize the setting, you can insert the value of width and height of the paper. There are two options available for the shape – landscape and portrait. The color swatch option will take you to the color picker where you can choose color that is required for your document. For getting color printouts or PDFs of your design, you must select the Print Paper Color Checkbox.
• To change margins of your document, you need to select the margin check box. By default, margins are not visible in the document. Input the values for left, right, top and button margins.
• You can also opt for the high rendering resolution with choosing high, low or medium resolution quality for your design. Both input and output resolution can be adjusted in SketchUp.

How to install Plugins in SketchUp

This is guidance for everyone who has just begun to explore to vast world of plugins and new to SketchUp. You all can find every possible method for installing plugins in SketchUP. It is trouble free and easy. It is also familiar for the BEGGINER users who use various apps and dig about their computer innards.

There are some of our much known communities driven, like Plugin Index, Didier Bur’s Ruby Depot or Smustard; you can choose one from them. But installing these for the first time it can be little tricky for new users and sometimes it can be frustrating when the things are not clear from the outset.

1. Installing RBZ files in SketchUp: After the release of SketchUp 8 M2 the clever folks at SketchUp introduce a new file format (.rbz) which made installing plugins a one click operation so that you can install plugins from within SketchUp itself.

Click the Window menu and select Preferences to display a dialog box. Then select Extensionsfrom the sidebar lists to active and inactive plugins currently installed. Then click Install Extension to navigate to the .rbz downloaded file. A warning dialog will ask to confirm to install this plugin and make changes your file system. Click Yes and the installation will be successful.

2. Installing RB files in SketchUp:The.rbformat is a simple text file written in the ruby language that is saved as a ruby file. These can come in varying complexity. Some are in simple single file that will add a menu item. While others contain folders with multiple files in zipped format that may add toolbar and all sort of goodies. Whether it is about PC or Mac users first they have to select the location of SketchUp Plugins folder.

Mac users need to know that it is a common misconception that the plugins folder is located with the SketchUp package.
With our plugins folder installing any plugin is a simple drag and drop procedure from your default browser download folder location to the SketchUp Plugins folder. If SketchUp is already running just restart it to appear of plugin.
