How to generate gears in sketchup with circle, offset & rotate tools

In this sketchup video tutorial, Justin Geis provides some useful sketchup tips for generating gears with the use of circle, offset and rotate tools inside sketchup. You don’t have to use any sketchup extension for this purpose.
Some useful tips :-
While going to produce geometry like this, initially you have to focus on the number of segments in your circles. SketchUp does not have the ability to draw “pure” curves. As an alternative, the curves are developed with a set of individual segments, which are arranged by providing a number with the circle tool turned on. The number of teeth in your gear can be modified by fixing the number of segments in your circle.

As for instance, let’s draw 2 circles maintaining the similar radius, one with 24 sides, and one with 36 sides.
If the offset tool is applied to generate a slightly larger circle and draw in some teeth, it is possible to employ the rotate tool to copy the teeth around the radius. Here, the circle having more segments contain more teeth.
As soon as the circle is drawn, draw a slightly larger circle by applying offset tool. After that, draw lines to the equivalent segment points to start a tooth. How to apply domelight and HDRI in vray 3.4 sketchup to set sky

This sketchup v-ray tutorial is based on the process to set sky with domelight and HDRI in vray 3.4 sketchup.
Dome Light produces simple, artifact-free image-based lighting with significance sampling of HDR images. This method makes light tracing and global illumination process accurate.
The VRay Dome Light belongs to a V-Ray specific light source plug-in that is applied to generate image base lighting setup.
It is available in v-ray toolbar as dome light icon. Just click on it and then click any place in the scene to arrange the dome light.
HDRI means High Dynamic Range Imaging. It is a method that creates a bigger span or range of luminance amid the light and dark areas of an image.

In V-Ray for SketchUp, the HDRI can be applied both as a background and an IBL (Image Based Lighting). If HDRI is applied as background, just load it in the Environment Rollout/Background. If it is required to use it as an IBL, then just load this HDRI in the GI (Skylight). It will transform to a light source then to illuminate the scene.

Importer Active3D – A newest sketchup plugin

Geraldo Brodbeck is the developer of Importer Active3D. This plugin supports SketchUp 8, SketchUp 2013, SketchUp 2014, SketchUp 2015, SketchUp 2016, SketchUp 2017. This plugin is available in Brazilian and Portuguese.
This plugin can be used to import the 3D model of Active3D or Arqui_3D.
Every object generated inside Sketchup comprises of an identifier that facilitates you to keep your geometry updated inside Sketchup every time the original project modifies in Active3D or Arqui_3D.
The objects belong to groups whose name is the identifier. It is suggested not to modify the group names.
The materials related to objects inside Sketchup are preserved if they are involved with the group. If you relate the material with the faces of the group, this association tends to be lost in the update.
For upgrading, just press the command again. There is the option to delete the objects which are no more available in the original project can be deleted or retained.
The context menu includes tools to choose all objects equivalent to the chosen one, by layer or material, simplify the process to assign materials.

Brief overview of displacement map in v-ray for sketchup

This is an exclusive tutorial on V-Ray for SketchUp 3.4 beta where one can learn how to apply displacement feature in V-ray for Sketchup.

Though the textures are applied for displacement maps in several cases, it is likely to include a displacement map through the procedural mapping.

E-on Software Announces the Opening of Submissions for the 3D CG Environment Competition 2017

3D CG Environment Competition Offers Participants the Opportunity to Showcase Talents in 3D Natural Environment Graphics
Together with their sponsors, e-on software, leading developer of solutions for the creation, animation, rendering, and integration of natural 3D environments today announced the ninth edition of the 3D CG Environment Competition, for participants to showcase their expertise in using 3D technology to create computer generated (CG) natural environments.

Submissions for the competition are now open and continue through September 30, 2017. The winners of the competition will be announced on October 31, 2017.
Together with sponsors NVIDIA, WACOM, HP, Pixologic, 3D Artist, Routledge, Cornucopia3D, GeekAtPlay, AsileFX and QuadSpinner, e-on software will be awarding competition winners more than $30,000 in 3D tools and resources.
