How to model & render a villa with vray 3.4 for sketchup 2017

In this tutorial, you will learn how to use vray 3.4 for sketchup 2017 for modeling and rendering a villa. You will also learn various things like how to model the landscape, create road with sandbox tool, add light, add grass with skatter and add trees with laubwerk.

Details about sandbox tool, skatter plugin and laubwerk plugin are given below :-

Sandbox Tools - The Sandbox Tools (help.sketchup.com) extension employs the concept of a sandbox that belongs to a surface to be formed and manipulated with sandbox tools. A sandbox in SketchUp (and in other 3D modeling tools) is generally defined as a triangulated irregular network or TIN in terrain Modeling terminology. The sandbox tool is used to model terrain and design landscape.

Skatter Plugin – This plugin (getskatter.com) can be used to render huge amounts of vegetation, instantly populate city blocks, generate parametric assemblies, crowds, carpets etc. all right inside SketchUp.

Laubwerk – This sketchup plugin (extensions.sketchup.com) can make your models realistic with superior quality vegetation. It allows the users of V-Ray or Thea for SketchUp getting access to a wide-ranging library of render-ready, realistic, procedural 3D plants.

To learn the complete process for modeling & rendering a villa, go through the following video tutorial.

Demonstration of outliner tool inside sketchup

In this sketchup video tutorial, Justin Geis, the renowned sketchup tutor, has demonstrated the functionalities of outliner tool inside sketchup. This tool will save huge time while working in sketchup as well as retain your model organized.

Outliner comes as a little menu to the right hand side of sketchup. If is not visible to the right hand side, just go to window then click on default tray and check the box beside outliner (check the box). Also make sure that tray is turned on.

If there is a group or component in your model and the model contains group geometry, they will appear inside the outliner.

To start with, draw a box, push pull it up, choose it, right click on the box and made it a group, as soon as it turns to a group, it shows up inside the outliner. Now it is possible to make changes to it, rectify it and make the model organized.

After transforming the parts of your model into groups or components, the outliner monitors them properly. It is possible to establish the relationships among parts of your model in a structured outline style having one group nested inside of another. With outliner, the parts of your model can be hidden and safeguard them from unintended changes.

To gather more knowledge on outliner, go through the following exclusive video tutorial.

Some useful tips to copy & multiply geometry with the Move tool in sketchup

The Move tool is also used to copy geometry or produce several copies with simple clicks and keystrokes.

It is suggested to indicate an interval for the copies while copying with the move tool. This feature is suitable for generating 3D models of fences, bridges, and decks, where various posts or beams are uniformly placed.

Given below, the steps required for creating copies with the Move tool :

By using the Select tool, select the geometry to be copied.

Select the Move tool from the toolbar or press M. The cursor will transform to a four-way arrow.

To notify SketchUp that you prefer to replicate the selected entities, press and release the Ctrl (Microsoft Windows) or Option (Mac OS X) key. Next to the four-way arrow cursor, a plus sign will be visible.

Click the selected entities.

Move the cursor to copy your selection. A copy of your selection follows the Move cursor while moving it onscreen. In the figure, the fence panel is copied.

Click on your preferred location to arrange your copy. The copied entities are now selected and the original entities are deselected. As a substitute, move your selection to a proper distance and provide a length value, like 21' or 30m, and then press Enter (Microsoft Windows) or Return (Mac OS X).

(Optional) Right away after arranging your copy, generate several copies or uniformly spaced copies by typing a value and a multiplier, which become visible in the Measurements box.

To generate several copies, type 7x (or *7) to produce 7 copies.

To divide the distance among the copy & the original, type 5/ (or /5) to generate five copies uniformly placed among the original and the first copy.

Dual Dims v1.1 for sketchup

Dual Dims v1.1 for sketchup
TIG has developed Dual Dims v1.1 for sketchup. This sketchup extension supports sketchup 2014 and higher version. The sketchup users can use this sketchup plugin to modify the dimensions inside Model into preferred 'Dual' format. It generally includes metric & imperial units.

The sketchup users can access this plugin by visiting Menu and then Plugins and from there Extensions > TIG-DualDims.

Application: Create a selection having Dimensions [disregard other objects].

If there exist NO Dimensions Selected then one has to opt for ALL in the existing context: Yes|No.

Afterwards, if there exist Groups or Components having 'Nested' Dimensions, the users have to opt for Yes|No to process those as well...

Run the Tool from the Menu... In the dialog box, select the Setting as preferred.
The default for the 'Upper Units' refer to the 'Current Units' – It will go with the existing Model Units settings for the number of d.p. and units suffix etc.

While selecting any other units the 'Upper d.p.' already set up, is utilized, and also the selected 'Upper Units' suffix is attached to that text.

The default of the 'Lower Units' is built upon on the existing Model Units -if imperial it's mm, if metric it's "

Again if the 'Lower Units' not belong to the 'Current Units' [presumably], then the 'Lower d.p.' already set up will be applied, and the selected 'Lower Units' suffix is attached to that text.

Units for both the Upper Units and the Lower Units text are chosen from the drop-down list - mm, cm, m, ", ' and 'Current Units'.

TIG has developed Dual Dims v1.1 for sketchup. This sketchup extension supports sketchup 2014 and higher version.

AXYZ design and Chaos Group Join Forces to Bring High-Quality 3D Characters to SketchUp and Rhino

New Collaboration Gives SketchUp and Rhino Users Access to the Metropoly 3D Ready Posed Human Characters Catalogue

Trento, Italy – November 18, 2014. Leading provider of 3D character models, AXYZ design, announced today the integration of their libraries with Chaos Group’s V-Ray for SketchUp and Rhino. This release addresses the lack of existing high-quality 3D human assets for these platforms, offering users the benefits of adding 3D characters to their renders.

Teaching with Sketchup: using 3D to spark creativity in children
A primary school classroom with students busy creating simple animations
Aimed at the arch-viz industry, 3D character models are ready to be dropped into any scene to provide an instant entourage, breaking the limitations of using 2D characters, and improving daily workflows.

Teaching with Sketchup: using 3D to spark creativity in children

One of the finest projects created by our pupils, mixing arts/history with 3D modeling
Main benefits:
  • Forget post-production - Thanks to instant integration in the scene, retouching is not required, as interaction with the scene’s lighting is automatic.
  • Simulate photographic effects - Render motion blur and depth of field, even through transparent objects.
  • Render from any angle - New views can be rendered without the need to add people and match perspective in post-production.
  • Create stereoscopic images and immersive virtual spaces. Scenes including 3D characters can be exported to real time engines or used to render stereoscopic images.
  • Use simple materials - Besides realistic photographically derived textures, simple materials like plastic, metal and plaster, found in traditional architectural scale models can be used.

AXYZ design CEO, Diego Gadler says, ”Partnering with Chaos Group gives us the chance to move forward on our commitment to provide artists with the best 3D characters in the industry. We are excited about what this collaboration brings for the future, with a new and expanded user base.”

Another project, showcasing links between different curricula and a modular, computational-thinking approach to problem solving

Chaos Group Product Manager, Corey Rubadue says, “Partnerships like this are invaluable for the V-Ray community. SketchUp and Rhino artists now have easy access to quality digital people and can focus more time on design and communicating their ideas.”

All libraries are available and distributed through the AXYZ online store, enabling users to immediately download and merge characters into their scenes. Metropoly model libraries are also available for Autodesk 3ds Max, Maxon Cinema 4D, and Wavefront .obj file format for use with other compatible software.

About AXYZ design
