MeshWrapper Tool 1.0.1 for Sketchup

MeshWrapper Tool is another useful sketchup extension from Cadman. It is compatible with SketchUp 2014, SketchUp 2015, SketchUp 2016, SketchUp 2017, SketchUp 2018, SketchUp 2019.

It offers a series of tools for generating an exterior shell around 3D geometry, streamlining the model and leads to an equally distributed surface mesh around the object.

The Wrap Objects tool provides a consistent grid mesh around an object(s). The dissimilar grid projections belong to each group inside an overall MeshWrapper group. Each grid mesh is formed with a quad faces, and is well suited with quad face tools.

Choose the object(s) to be covered with a mesh. Then fill out the Gridding Options dialog:

the Grid spacing size. If this number belongs to a negative number, the longest dimension of the object(s) will be subdivided with that number to settle the grid size.

the mesh projection style, either all around (surround), Top and Bottom, Front and Back, or Right and Left.

the Shard filter indicates a grid edge multiplier. When the length of an edge goes beyond this multiplier, its triangle will be excluded of the final mesh.

Stitch edges: The subgroups of the mesh are detached from one another, but their perimeter grid cells are modified to sui each other while the Stitch edges variable is fixed to ‘yes’.

The Seam Zipper tool stitches the edges of two grid seams collectively, or fills in a 1x grid inside a mesh.

Ensure there exist an edge on each end of the seam opening to transform each end of the seam as a single grid width 'boxed end'. A boxed end is when an edge contains faces entirely encircling it on one side.

To get more details or purchase the extension, go through the following link extensions.sketchup.com

Choose the ‘box ends’ of the seam and the Seam zipper tool stitches the grid seams jointly.

The Reverse group faces tool reverses all faces inside a selected group.

If a seam from Seam Zipper is facing inside out, reverse it with the ‘Reverse group faces’ tool. Then rupture the seam group and it merges into the encompassing mesh.

The Diagonals to quads tool converts pairs of triangles into a quad face (four sided face). Choose the common edge among the triangles, (or multiple diagonals) and the tool will convert them into quad faces.

MestKit can produce a finite element mesh through Sketchup and TetGen

Peter V has introduced MeshKit for sketchup that allows sketchup users to generate model as well as mesh (through TetGen) directly out of sketchup. The users will be able to produce tetrahedral meshes utilizable with finite element, finite volume, or other numerical analysis methods. Besides, the users can also insert numerous regions, volumes, boundaries & refinement. MeshKit is compatible with sketchup 2014 and sketchup 2015.

This sketchup extension can be used to instantly design models for analyzing any number of numerical methods. MeshKit supports various opensource multiphysics packages like OpenFOAM and Elmer Multiphysics, as well as Fluent, Ansys, LS-DYNA, CFX, Star-CCM+, Feflo and others.

With the Mark Regions dialog, the users can label a group as a region and characterize the optimal mesh refinement level.

  • The Mark Volumes dialog facilitates the users to arrange a group that is similar to a volume (hole). The boundaries can be specified on this volume.
  • By Mark Boundaries tool, a boundary number can be allotted to selected faces. Once a group is chosen, all faces in that group will be apportioned that boundary number. A single exclusive boundary name/number is allocated a color created arbitraily. The default boundary number is 0, and any unallocated boundaries will be allotted this number. This is a tricky way to delete/omit internal boundaries which should not be visible in the final mesh. Usually any boundary is allotted to work with a non-zero integer. The boundary refinement can be included for generating local refinement. It produces a very efficiently refined and graded mesh.
  • The Boundary Info tool just catalogues the boundary name allocated to individual selected face, or group of faces. The allotted refinement value is also itemized.
  • The Save Selected Groups to Smesh tool creates the smesh file out of the selected groups. All entities must available in groups, and the groups are only 1 level deep (ie, not groups of groups, at least for now).
  • NEW in v2.0+, any mesh can be imported to SketchUp through the option to keep or remove boundary information.

Currently, the users can apply MeshKit for only group and not for component.

SketchUp - some tips and tactics

SketchUp is known for its speed activities. It is a quick 3D modeling programme. It often uses as landscaping architects. SketchUp is not so tough to learn, but it takes some time to become expert in this trade. Kevin Pfeiffer, writer of landarchs.com has come up with this article. We made an excerpt.

Yes, there are some shortcuts to save the time; still it will take some time to learn. We are trying to present some tricks for your help:-

How to lock axis: Functioning shape on 3D space on a 2D screen is not simple. There is much confusion taken place automatically. If you shift to a circle, you may feel that it would go up along y-axis, witnessed that goes along z-axis. In that case you have to use arrow keys for locking the axis. The up and down arrows are Y-axis (Blue) and in the left, the Z-axis (green), then turn right x-axis (red). The movement will be known from here.

Arrow Keys To Lock Axis

Use of array tool: Many people simply copy and paste the sketchup shape objects and other things. Many people also repeatedly try Ctrl+v to paste it. It is suggested to use AutoCAD array tool for speedy use of sketchup.
Watch this video learning:

Photoshop for vegetation must: Sketchup has many downloadable options (3D Warehouse), but while growing vegetation, the file size creates a problem. The best rout is to use Photoshop with PNG format.

Plugins: These are made for enhancing the capacity of SketchUp. Click the links
Side count for polygon:

This video tutorial can guide the designers.

Selecting by click: The Selection on the screen is a major problem in Sketchup. Count the number of click and then, select the face and the face and edge and the whole of the object.
