How to set up light for a daytime interior rendering with Vray 3.4 for sketchup

In this construction video tutorial, Minh from Architecture Inspirations, briefly explains the method to arrange the lighting perfectly for a daytime interior rendering with Vray 3.4 for sketchup.

The step-by-step methods include the followings :-
Trace your main light source
Modify camera settings
Improve the Sunlight
Lighten dark shadows
Modify sun settings
Notes :- Render settings are very crucial and there exist various rendering conditions like interior shots, dusk shots, and daytime shots which need diverse setups.
In V-Ray for Sketchup, the V-Ray interface runs within Sketchup. Different things like the sun, cameras, and materials are associated with each other among the two programs. If the sun angle in Sketchup is modified, the sun angle in V-Ray will also be changed.
Usually, the sun angle should be modified in Sketchup to set the shadows in proper position prior to move to V-Ray. The Sketchup scene that is going to be rendered in V-Ray should be saved by going to “View>Animation>Add Scene”.
It is very useful while overlaying Sketchup image exports on top of the V-Ray renderings or it is required to render the similar view subsequently.
To learn the complete process, watch the following video tutorial.

Some useful features of Sketchup Pro 2018

In this sketchup article, Mark Harrison has briefly described some vital features of Sketchup Pro 2018.

Big enhancements are found in controlling section planes, excerpting model data into aggregated reports for takeoffs, and producing superior drawings out of your SketchUp models. Another crucial feature is the introduction of SketchUp Free: 3D modeling for everyone, in a browser to get access to free 3d modeling.
SketchUp Free offers the simplest way to draw in 3D, now assigned in a web browser. Draw, orbit, push-pull: create anything according to your imagination, however you visualize it. It loads in current web browsers on various operating systems, so it is possible to model on Chromebooks and Linux today.
Go to app.SketchUp.com and commence modeling instantly. The similar modeling engine is used as the desktop version, running in a browser.
In order to host the models online, utilize Trimble Connect. All your work will be up-to-date and available wherever you require them. Your projects auto-save, and in case of a crash, your latest work will be preserved there when you re-launch SketchUp Free.

Interview with Warunyoo Songkran - an environmental engineer and Manager of Virtual Design and Construction at Premier Energy

My name is Warunyoo Songkran. I am a managing director of a small engineering consultant company in Thailand (before that I worked for a company named Premier Energy (PME)). My expertise is the construction of large biogas harvesting systems. I have been using SketchUp for more than 3 years. Now SketchUp is the only one tool I use for my engineering work.

I found SketchUp by accident 3 years ago. One of my friends came to see me and showed me one of his SketchUp model. I asked him many questions about this amazing program. One question I asked him is " Can we use SketchUp for doing design detail or some kind of construction drawings. The answer was " No". However I did not believe him and in that night I did my First SketchUp model. It was totally bad.

After practicing for weeks, I decided to show one of my work to my team. My long journey with SketchUp was started since then.

Interview with Warunyoo Songkran - an environmental engineer and Manager of Virtual Design and Construction at Premier Energy

You had designed and constructed more than 12 waste-to-energy projects around Thailand. What was the most challenging project and how did you apply sketchup in this project?

Yes, But with all of my engineering teams.

I wanted to apply SketchUp at every stage of my company work. I have tried several time to use SketchUp in all Stage of my construction projects but they were failed. However the most challenging project was the last project before I resigned from PME as Engineering Department Manager.

In this project I used my dynamic component databases to assembly the construction project prototype within SketchUp. This SketchUp model will serve as the studying model for everyone in my team to share their ideas to help preventing conflicts and problems when construction phase was started. Bill of materials was also created directly from SketchUp model. Because the construction plans and drawings were changed several time, SketchUp dynamic component database can help my team to handle this problem without too much stress and efforts (comparing to AutoCAD).

Interview with Warunyoo Songkran - an environmental engineer and Manager of Virtual Design and Construction at Premier Energy

3d construction modeling in my opinion is the process where all parties or individuals who are involved in the construction project use simple 3d modeling program to make what I call " construction project prototype". This prototype does not explain only physical characteristics of the building (or every kind of construction projects) but al so the methods and processes of the construction. BIM is tool hard for Thai engineers and contractors that is why I have chosen SketchUp which is more easy and fun (effective).

BIM requires the combination of information with 3d model. Sketchup is similar to BIM in this way. Dynamic Component is information and 3d model. Moreover The latest version of sketchup can export IFC file to work with other BIM software.

Interview with Warunyoo Songkran - an environmental engineer and Manager of Virtual Design and Construction at Premier Energy

Actually, Sketchup pro 8 is enough for my work. Sketchup 2014 is more faster I think it helps my workflow in this way.

I would like to see SketchUp to be some kind of 3d software that:
  • Easy to use
  • ery fun to use
  • Very effective to use
It should not be like BIM software which is very hard to learn and use.

Dynamic Component Database is very important for me so I am focusing on creating dynamic components for using in my projects.

The real potential of sketchup for construction project is the dynamic component. Do not stop using sketchup until you can expert in using this dynamic component.

Ur Space Magazine is the most English Magazine I read. I think is it cool that someone make very useful for everyone of free. Keep up good work.

SEFAIRA integrates daylighting analysis into Sefaira for sketchup plugin for effective daylighting visualization

Sefaira, the leading provider of high performance building design software, recently declared that it involves daylighting analysis feature with its performance based design platform.

Benefits of Architects

With the inclusion of daylighting, Sefaira integrates two significant design metrics in the same tool. It will empower the architects to generate elegant and superior building designs by providing balance trade-offs connecting energy and daylighting instantly and efficiently.

The architects will be able to bring meaningful, intuitive performance analysis into their native design environments.

The architect can also undertake best feasible design decisions from the conceptual phases. Authoritative daylighting visualizations will allow the architects to take data-oriented design decisions and convey evidently and efficiently with their clients.

Sefaira gives provides a superior platform to comprehend this complicated interdependent correlation at initial design phases by exploring various window to wall ratios, shading possibilities, glazing systems, and orientation.

Starting this month, daylighting analysis will be accessible in Sefaira for SketchUp, a plugin that facilitates the architects to have real-time energy analysis devoid of leaving their native design environment. Sefaira can now produce solid real-time daylighting and energy metrics inside a single platform by incorporating industry leading and largely accepted daylighting engines, Radiance and DAYSIM, into this plugin. Later on, Sefaira will include daylighting analysis to other design platforms.

Sefaira Daylighting comes up with key metrics which range from Spatial Daylight Autonomy (an indicator of the amount of daylight a space receives), and Annual Sunlight Exposure (a measure of direct sunlight, and an indicator of potential glare and comfort issues).
