Some useful sketchup tips for improving your model renderings

This article is extracted from an exclusive sketchup article written by Michael LaValley, a renowned architect. The article focuses on some useful tips for making your model rendering process superior.
Sketchup is basically a model maker not a perfect software for rendering. Natively, SketchUp doesn’t “render” the images out of your model. Relatively, it acquires what seem to be effectively “screenshots” of your model and then exports them with very restricted control over what you’ll achieve.
To find solution for the issue, one can choose three basic levels of intervention like full separation, partial integration or full integration.
1: Full Separation - The most convenient method to enhance your model as well as your output rendering, is to completely export the model to another program. This efficiently facilitates you to cut knots from SketchUp as soon as the most part of your model is developed there with the purpose of controlling the horsepower of another program’s rendering platform.
But the process is complicated to handle the model as it needs the most substantial level of completion before the transition.
When you are quite assured that the design is finished, you are ready to export the whole model to another rendering software. You then pass another week doing yourself each setting, developing the model further with the application of tools which are inherent to the new program. You are planning to illustrate the new rendering to the client perfectly. But the client may require you to go back and modify approximately 40 percent of the model.
It becomes problematic to bounce to and from as you have already started to model various other pieces in the newer program. You can either cut your loses, give up the newer model fully and develop from the last duplication of the SketchUp model you had with the aim of making the alterations.
It happens because SketchUp performs best with geometry generated inherently in the program itself.

How physically based rendering (PBR) can be used to improve the workflow between Sketchup & Unity

This sketchup video focuses on the following topics :-
 How to develop and quickly UV map in SketchUp for Unity
 How materials PBR function in Unity
 How to generate your own PBR textures and materials out of pictures on your phone or files which are available online.
Physically based rendering (PBR) is the most crucial feature in Unity 5. This new lighting model simulates the natural interactions of light rays and real-world materials. It can be used to produce dynamic materials which include attractive contrast and detail.
If any modification occurs in lighting or in the background, PBR will facilitate the assets to be demonstrated in the manner you like. Nearly all PBR renderers apply some form of image-based lighting, which facilitate the assets to select colors from the adjacent environment.
The video is segregated in three parts :-
Part 1: SketchUp UVs
Prior to start, ensure that SketchUV extension for SketchUp is installed from extension warehouse
(https://extensions.sketchup.com/en/content/sketchuv)

Part 2: PBR in Unity
To gather more information concerning how PBR (Physically Based Rendering) textures is applied, please explore through Allegorithmic's PBR Guide Vol#1 and Vol#2

Part 3: Textures in PixPlant
For completing the concluding part, it is suggested to use PixPlant for seamless texture and render map creation (https://www.pixplant.com/). It is robust and user-friendly.

SketchUp - some tips and tactics

SketchUp is known for its speed activities. It is a quick 3D modeling programme. It often uses as landscaping architects. SketchUp is not so tough to learn, but it takes some time to become expert in this trade. Kevin Pfeiffer, writer of landarchs.com has come up with this article. We made an excerpt.

Yes, there are some shortcuts to save the time; still it will take some time to learn. We are trying to present some tricks for your help:-

How to lock axis: Functioning shape on 3D space on a 2D screen is not simple. There is much confusion taken place automatically. If you shift to a circle, you may feel that it would go up along y-axis, witnessed that goes along z-axis. In that case you have to use arrow keys for locking the axis. The up and down arrows are Y-axis (Blue) and in the left, the Z-axis (green), then turn right x-axis (red). The movement will be known from here.

Arrow Keys To Lock Axis

Use of array tool: Many people simply copy and paste the sketchup shape objects and other things. Many people also repeatedly try Ctrl+v to paste it. It is suggested to use AutoCAD array tool for speedy use of sketchup.
Watch this video learning:

Photoshop for vegetation must: Sketchup has many downloadable options (3D Warehouse), but while growing vegetation, the file size creates a problem. The best rout is to use Photoshop with PNG format.

For Large Tool set: see this flow chart

view> toolbars...> large tool set.

Plugins: These are made for enhancing the capacity of SketchUp. Click the links
Side count for polygon:

This video tutorial can guide the designers.

Selecting by click: The Selection on the screen is a major problem in Sketchup. Count the number of click and then, select the face and the face and edge and the whole of the object.

Best way to clean 3D printer

There are so many attractive technique to advance the performance, as well as strength and sturdiness, of a 3D printer. This is an up-and-coming industry, thus modernization, discoveries and improvements in the way things are done are continually being discovered. It’s oftentimes the small developments, and ideas, which make the major divergence.

This is certainly the case with a little machine called the Universal Filament Filter, created by a company based in Sweden called Creative Tools. The main part is so small that it can be 3D printed within an hour. What it does, is help to clean and oil filament use in an FFF/FDM 3D printer.

Once the main part is printed, a minute piece of foam, or a sponge, should be cut to dimensions just about the size of the 3D printed part. This piece can then be pushed into the hole within the filter. Once this is done, you are ready to feed the end of a reel of filament in through the hole, making sure it goes directly through the sponge situated inside, and out the other end. It may make it trouble-free to cut off a little piece of filament on an angle, so that the end of the spool is sharp and can more easily pass though the sponge.

Now, just add a little bit of mineral oil, which can be found at almost any convenience store, to the sponge, and you are ready to go.

The filament filter should be placed somewhere in the area between the reel and the extruder, so that the filament which is fed into the extruder first passes through the filter.

What the filter does is oil the filament, while also cleaning any dust or other particles from it. In doing so, you will reduce the strain on the extruder’s motor, making it last longer and perform better. In addition, the filter will prevent clogging of the extruder caused by dirty or dusty filament, an all too common problem users run into with desktop 3D printers.
