Profile Builder for SketchUp:

This is a fast and responsive set of parametric modeling tools for SketchUp and it is an essential SketchUp extension for thousands of SketchUp users all over the world. Profile Builder helps users to model faster than ever before and also make the models smarter and adaptable to design changes. The base of Profile Builder has the capability to create smart emissions or Profile Members using parametric profiles; and a profile can be of any shape or maybe even a polyline. Not this, Profile Builder can also help to create smart mouldings like framing, piping, railings, roofing, walls and foundations so there are lots of possibilities. Recently it is updated from the older one and lots of new features are added in it; it contains lots of new tools and features that are simply designed to help users in creating smart profiles within SketchUp.

Features in Profile Builder 3:

Here are some new features discussed that are included in the updated version-

  • Building along multiple paths: This new version of Profile Builder allows users to extrude profiles along multiple different paths at one time. It also can handle any path in its way and will always maintain the expected orientation of the Profile.
  • Build Discontinuous: This feature allow users to fix joints where objects turn as single objects, rather than just one continuous object and also can adjust whether the profile follows around the curve or if it begins a new profile at the junctions.
  • Auto Assembler: This feature will try to create an assembly base on an example object that users have drawn. The Auto Assemble feature can simply create a multitude of different assemblies with one click of a button; it can be done with some simple steps, at first need to create the arts need to assembly then selecting them and clicking ‘Auto-assemble’ will do the work.
  • Span Assemblies: They are anchored between adjacent component parts and allow sag, curve etc. The Profile Builder Assembler helps to create and save fully customizable parametric smart assemblies.
  • Hole Tool: This tool allows users to cut holes in their profiles that they have made and it is a much waited feature in Profile Builder as in the previous version this feature was absent. It also can cut through nested groups and components with ease; objects can be modified and the holes will be re-generated in the proper location.
  • Set height of Assemblies: Now the height of various assemblies can be set simply by entering a new value in the height box in the Assembly dialog that allows quick height adjustments.
  • Live Profile editing: This option helps to select a profile, and then adjust it so that all instances adjust automatically without having to go back and adjust individually.
  • Split/Edit Complex Members: This tool allows splitting different parts of extruded profiles into their own objects.
  • Post-editing tools: Any smart profile member or Assembly created with Profile Builder can be edited after creating it only needs to adjust intelligent parameters.
  • Smart-Path Selection: The Smart-Path Select tool can quickly select a specific path of edges among other complex geometry.
  • Revolve a Profile: One can also revolve a Profile in a click and create a parametric 3D revolved Profile member and can be done quickly.

"The most underused SketchUp Tip: Outliner Tool”

SketchUp’s most underused tool is Outliner tool that will save the time and also stay arranged while working in SketchUp and has some hidden features.
In this article we are going to discuss about benefits of using the Outliner Tool in SketchUp that can save both time and stay organized.

Outliner Tool:

This tool works in very simple way, whenever a group or component is created within the SketchUp Model it automatically will be visible in the Outliner and also user can see the name of the component in the outliner. This tool also works with a created box like if a user creates a box, selects it and makes it a group; then it will automatically shows up in the outliner. The noticeable thing is that a group will arrive with a single box next to the Outliner without any brackets and if a component is created constraining a set of brackets then may an associated name will be created with it. An object can be renamed in the outliner through two easy steps- 1) by right clicking on it and selecting the option “rename” or 2) users can go to the entity info for the object and can rename it there.
The outliner also helps to show individual objects, nested objects, meaning groups inside groups etc.; that means creating a copy of the box and group it one can get a new group within the outliner that can be extended and minimized. This will make easier to get to nested objects and allows to keep a really pact view; if users create different shapes and want to give name the individual shapes, then at first the shapes need to group by shape type, next group all of them in to a group called “Shapes”. All groups can be named in the same way to keep remainder of contains and can get them easily in the time they needed. But components will show in a little different way like they will have brackets around the component definition and this the name of all copies of this components will share, more than that each one of these individual components can have its own unique “Instance name” which is the name of the individual object.
These are the features that can get in the previous versions of SketchUp but in the new version of SketchUp 2018 one of the features which is that the section cuts now can show up in the outliner so the users can use the outliner to arrange the section cuts which is very important as it is the only way users can have multiple section cuts active instantly and can have them inside different groups. Besides that, users can also adjust and view different visibilities inside the outliner which can hide the geometry but still be grayed out in the outliner. To unhide the hidden geometry, users just simply need to right click on it and select the option “unhide”; it is important to know that geometry on a layer that is turn off will not show up in the outliner until it is turned on again. Users can also move and change groupings for objects within the outliner with just clicking and dragging; users can also explode already created groups by right clicking and selecting the “explode” option.

"Extension Inspection: SketchFX ”

Component Finder is a new extension that can easily manage users’ component libraries and help them to place them on the hard drive to manage all the information well.

Aaron Dietzen is a passionate designer in SketchUp who has done many videos in SketchUp Live about SketchUp Skill Builder and made many video tutorials to describe them.

He is more than just a simple Trimble employee; he is a true SketchUp fan. He spends his free time in designing things in SketchUp and loves adventurous works.

Aaron has shared various designing ideas and important tips to utilize various features of SketchUp, in this article we are going to discuss about a new method of using Styles with SketchFX. .

SketchFX: It applies a series of visual effects one after another in a bottom down order and it has three types of effects:

  • Image: SketchFX can generate an image from various sources like file, SketchUp scene, a particular style or may be a constant color and images can be affected by child effects.
  • Filter: SketchFX can modify an image with its particular properties and it can be an image child or can affect all the above effects
  • Mask: SketchFX hides or views only some areas of an image.

Styles is a wonderful method to modify the look of every model but it is not enough every time as sometime more than the simple thing is needed and here SketchFX from Fluid woks where people can take styles to a new level and can get further processing graphics right out of SketchUp. SketchFX gives control to the users over a total heap of effects that can be layered on their SketchUp model and also allows them to create visuals that would easily need them to arouse their favorite photo editing software.

Types of SketchFX: SketchFX has two different flavors, one is SketchFX Pro and another is SketchFX EX, here is some information about them below-

  • SketchFX Pro: SketchFX Pro is a faster visualization plugin for SketchUp and it is simple to learn. It can be learnt in just one click; with a click users can create visually powerful illustrations of 3d models, choosing a range of many artistic styles.
  • SketchFX EX: SketchFx EX has all the features of SketchFX Pro and adds support of rendering animations.
While starting SketchFX, one can find a single button that will help to apply all the default effect and will show the window where all the additional features of SketchFX will be founded. There are a set of pre made drawings or styles to apply on the models like pencil sketches, coloring effects etc. and while applying any of the effects the work of SketchFX will get started. After applying effect there will open a box with changeable effects like any other photo editing tool where some options to change the modeling effects are (like blur, adjusting saturation and brightness, putting light etc.) used on the image to give it a new look.
The difference of SketchFX with other photo editing software is that it includes some combined effects that help to give a neat look in the model and more than that, each of these items in the list can be individually on and off to put effects. The items have more individual actions in their drop down options which can be named later and each individual will put an effect on the model, it is a fun thing to do. People can also apply various effects in a time and all of them will show clearly on the model without any mess which is a huge progress of this software. It also helps to show some details of mechanic drawings, though SketchFX misses some extra details but also adds some other information in the model which can’t be found anywhere. SketchFX is an easier way to show and change different details of a model.
About SketchUp: SketchUp or Google SketchUp is mainly a 3D modeling computer program that is used for a broad range of drawing applications used by architects, interior designer, landscape architects, civil and mechanical engineers, film and video game designers also. SketchUp can be getting as a freeware version named SketchUp Make and a paid version with many more extra benefits called SketchUp Pro. SketchUp is software from Trimble Company and there is an online library of free model congregations and 3D Warehouse to which users can add other models; besides that, the program has drawing layout functionality with variable ‘styles’, supports third-party ‘plug-in’ programs hosted on the Extension Warehouse to supply other abilities and enables placement of its models in Google Earth.
As SketchUp users are most of architects, designers, builders, makers and engineers etc. who works hard to give a nice shape to our physical world, they need great tools to do the work. "Managing Component Library with Component Finder ”

In this article we are going to discuss about an extension from the folks over at FlexTools to manage any SketchUp component model collections on the computer.

Component Finder Functions: This extension is designed in a way that will help users to organize and manage their component library on their hard drive. It is seen that many people have started modifying a library of components that they use across various different models but they really haven’t found any extension that seriously can help them guiding those libraries. The Component Finder Functions will help them to arrange and manage those components in a right order.

The working way of this component is simple, at first the extension has to be downloaded from the FlexTools website by clicking the download button and putting a value that users are willing to pay for the extension. But they want to download the free version, one has to simply type in $0 and click the “I want this” title button. Clicking this button allow the users to download the extension file for installation. After installing the extension, it will show up as a toolbar within the model; having a license for the FlexTools the toolbar will be seen longer but the magnifying glass icon will open up the ComponentFinder Window.


  • The ComponentFinder allows users to add various folders to the list which can be controlled and searched within. The first folder can be added by clicking within the window and controlling the folder need to add and then click the option, “Select Folder”. After clicking the option, it will help users to add the folder to their list.
  • There are two navigation models within ComponentFinder; one is flat view that allows users to view all the components within a folder indifferent of subfolder. The other one is Nav view which allows users to browse the folder structure within a folder.
  • Users also can able to add many different folders by simply clicking the folder at the top of the page and adding the new location.
  • There is also a search bar that helps users to search specific keywords within any open folders.
  • The magnifying glass icon allows users to create their preview files larger or smaller within their folder list.
  • When the users click on the little hard drive button, it will open up the location of the selected folder on the hard drive.
  • Users can save a selected component to a folder by simply selecting it in their model and then need to click the plus button to save it to a location of their choice.
  • The up and down buttons help the users to adjust the layout of their different folders.
  • The minus button helps to minimize the folder previews to adjust the folder names.
  • To delete or remove a folder just click the “x” button to remove it from the list.
  • Users can access other options by right click on the objects within the folders and there they can do many things like opening the containing folder as a separate tab, renaming files, replacing files and updating them out of the models and deleting objects.

How to create proxy grass in v-ray for sketchup

The following useful sketchup video tutorial is shared by W Design Corp. This tutorial is designed for advanced modelers as sound knowledge in modeling & sketchup materials is required. How to add section planes in sketchup and render an interior scene with IRender nXt

DutchSims4Master presents a wonderful sketchup tutorial. In this sketchup video one can learn how to use IRender nXt, the powerful renderer program, to render interiors or other parts of your model by adding section planes in sketchup.

The section planes are mainly used to conceal parts of objects. Section Planes cut the view to preview objects and shapes backward other objects in your sketch. Besides, one can apply scenes to animate the cutting among the section planes.

SketchUp Section Cut or Floor Plan to AutoCAD

This tutorial will walk you through the steps of exporting a section cut from a SketchUp model to a 2D line drawing in AutoCAD.

1. Draw a large rectangle on the plane of where you want the section to be. It can be vertical, horizontal, or even at an odd angle. The reason for doing it this way instead of using SketchUp’s built in section cut tool is that this way eliminates the empty spaces where a mass has been cut, revealing the geometry below. Example: If part of a floor is cut through, the floor should appear to be solid instead of showing any lines from the top of the walls on the floor below. It isn’t that difficult to remove the extraneous lines from the section cut tool if your model is simple, but when it gets more complex, it can become confusing as to which lines should actually be hidden.

2. The next step involves intersecting the geometry, but before doing this, make sure all parts of your model are not grouped, but that the cutting plane you drew earlier is in a group. Now select all of the model geometry, and intersect the faces with the model (right click > intersect faces > with model). This will draw a line anywhere the plane cuts through the model.

3. Delete the cutting plane and you’re left with the model and the intersected lines. Now all of the geometry that is being cut through has to be deleted. The easiest way to do this is to switch the camera to parallel projection (camera > parallel projection), switch to one of the head one views, such as top down for a plan view, or one of the side views for a section (camera > standard views > top/front/back/etc…), and drag a box around all of the geometry that has to be erased. You may have to zoom in closer to some areas to make sure there aren’t any small lines left over.

Tip: Since this technique is not restricted to just one cutting plane, you can use as many as you want to create stepped-sections (when parts of the model are cut through in different areas). Example here (profile view of a cut of a floor plan)

4. Now that the model is cut at the right spot, it’s time to export it to AutoCAD. Your view should be set to one that shows the model in a head on orientation, and make sure the camera is set to parallel projection. If the cut is a floor plan, you’d select top down view in the camera menu. If it is a section, you’d switch to one of the side views to get the right angle.

5. Center the model in the view, and then go to file > export > 2d graphic, and select AutoCAD DWG file in the export type drop-down menu. You may have to adjust the AutoCAD version in the options menu depending on which one you have installed. Make sure that the full scale option is checked, assuming you want the scale of the drawing to stay the same when exported.

6. Save and then open up the file in Autocad. You’ve successfully exported a section or floor plan from your SketchUp model to AutoCAD. You can now adjust the line weights to your heart’s content.

How to create this field for football with Sketchup

First I created a regulatory field , ie, a rectangle of 117 x 64 mm , and I drew the lines of the game inspired by some photos found on the net.

At this point, with 15 mm thick boards , I created a box around the field , each of these is a component so if we're going to work on an automatic will change all copies and this will be very useful in the later stages.

This field needs to be a little ' raised , perhaps with legs 80x80 mm square base (they are always copies of a component ) , in the lower part of the legs I created with squares slightly smaller.

To hold the whole structure, but also to give more realism , I added the bolts. But back to the speech of the components, if we add the bolts entering the component " Paw " ( just click twice above) magically appear on the other leg ... unless you do not want to repeat several times the same operation.

However, the realization of the bolts is very simple but effective . I created two cylinders of different sizes (see photo below). In the smaller one I created with the tool "Offset" a circle even smaller.

and I reduced to 5 the number of segments in the information entity and then push it slightly inward.

To give more realism to the bolt I rounded the edge of the smaller cylinder with the plugin "Round Corner".

Finally, this is the result.

We return to the playing field ... All football fields of the banks have in order not to stop the ball , even mine, and it is a triangle 20 x 20 mm which runs along its perimeter , obviously not at the door.

But now comes the fun part ! Make 8 equally spaced holes 20x20mm larger than one in the middle . Easier said than done.

I added the rings around the holes where they will spend the iron bars of the players and a boss where you stop bars of 'opponent . Even these have rounded them with the plugin "Round Corner" and I have also added the screws.

For the central hole instead I made a ring in her size then I created a quarter-sphere and I pulled one of the two sections,

To round better player , I used the plugin " Subdivide and smooth " setting the iteration to 1.
