"TrueBend: extension inspection”

SketchUp is simple yet powerful software full of special and useful extensions and TrueBend from Thom is another one that allows users to bend geometry within a single click.

About TrueBend:

This extension can be found in SketchUp’s Extension Warehouse and it bends instances for a given degree, saving the original length of the reference segment and in recent this reference segment is the bottom front of the boundingbox. As this works at the bottom front bounding box edge so it is recommended that the instance axis line up with the bend.

Tool Functions:

This tool or extension is totally designed to help users for bending objects within SketchUp for a given degree or radius and it also allows users to bend an object while keeping the length of the object intact. An example will definitely make this matter clear: suppose a user wants to bend a shape which is 60 inches long along a 180° bend then he/she will click and drag the red bar on the SketchUp design page for bending the object. Or the person can just click and drag to enter a value in the VCB to manually set the number of degrees in the bend; here the magic happens, this particular cool extension allows bending object sup to 360° where other extensions such as radial bend in FredoScale, only really allow users to go up to 180°. Moreover that, users can also adjust the number of segments created by typing an “s” behind any entered value and it is useful for things like spiral staircases or many other things where users need to bend as per on a set number of segments. Besides that, users can also adjust their created segments which has become softened or smoothed or may an unhidden geometry is created.

The above is the little explanations about the functions of this tool and here is the explanation of that tool applying on geometry by Aaron. According to his work TrueBend selects and groups certain geometry, there is only one icon of TrueBend and clicking on it appears some broken elements on the lower part of the geometry and a handle in the middle. By clicking and moving it the whole shape will get bended to the specified angle; right click on the object will give some options to fix the angle. His extension is just so perfect to use that while bending and working with; it holds on the length and bends exactly the same degree or edge as the users want in their model. Some geometry can be bended along the front and some are along back; all this can be happened just with one tool and one handle, it’s so much easier to do.

Enhance your sketchup skills with these useful tips

SketchUp is treated as one of the most powerful 3D modeling programs in the world of design. The 3d modelers and designers prefer sketchup due to its intuitive working tools, open source libraries, and countless plugins.

Given below, some useful tips to improve your sketchup skills :-

1. 3D Warehouse: 3D warehouse in Sketchup creates a platform to facilitate the 3D modeling designs. In 3D warehouse, there are extensive ranges of free 3D models developed by other users. It is possible to select the exact design for your project from 3D warehouse.

The users don’t have to increase the size of their files since there will be no requirements for adding lines, layers and materials. Just download ready-made models from warehouse and apply them in your design. With 3D Warehouse, it is possible to upload your own models in order that other users can download them.

2. Geo-locate: Sketchup facilitates the users to geolocate their models which can be obtained from Window> Model Information>Geolocation>Add location/ Define location manually. It is very crucial since the conceptualization of a project needs the reallocation. Besides, the shadows casted by the project differ while shifting the project from one location to another.

3. Extension Warehouse: It is the best area to locate and set up different types of add-ons for sketchup. The plugin-ins accessible from extension warehouse can resolve issues in the software as well as enhance the speed and performance of existing tools.

These extensions facilitate the users to include special features to SketchUp. With extension warehouse, one can search for industry-specific tools, like extensions for architecture, construction and engineering. Extensions are very effective in accomplishing time-saving tasks. As for instance, a plug-in can be used to examine and repair solids for 3D printing. The extensions can also be utilized for more general purposes like tools designing for an IKEA kitchen.

4. Group It: By applying the group feature, it becomes easier to make alterations to your model in due course of time. Arranging the parts of the model into groups, it is possible to modify one part of your model devoid of providing an effect to the faces and lines connected to it. Click on the surfaces/lines/figures, right-click>make a group. Double-click the group to edit it smoothly.

5. Layers – but not too many: The layers can be used to simplify your task. When other models or CAD files are imported into SketchUp, there exist numerous new layers added from them. While selecting to delete any layers, ensure that they are originated from the CAD file or other models. Conceal the layers which are not applied (Windows>Layers) to conceal the sections of the model not being utilized presently.

6. Reference Points: Reference points are effective at the time of generating or replicating elements. Applying points, objects or reference guides while copying objects will make it accurate and perfect. Just opt for the object, choose a reference point in space and press the Ctrl key.

7. Shortcuts: In sketchup, there are some easy to follow keyboard shortcuts and they are easily adjusted (Windows>Preferences>Shortcuts). Study the several actions and variations (denoted on the lower left of the screen) of the key combinations.

8. Visual Styles: Sketchup contains in-built graphic styles to produce artistic effects or conceal geometries. If you are aware what you want your model to demonstrate, the visual styles are selected to reproduce that.

9. Scene Manager: Scene manager (Windows>Scene) facilitates the users to provide various camera angles or scenes. It results in communicating, understanding and animating the project. It is a very effective tool to manage the height of the camera with regards to the ground.

Besides, when a scene is added to the scene manager, one can get one viewpoint while demonstrating various interior layout options for one specific room. In the same way, it can be applied for exterior facades of a project.

10. Axis and Arrow Keys: While shifting something or drawing a line, the task becomes challenging to perform so in the direction you want. Sketchup offers one unique way of confirming that you lock the axis you prefer to work in. Up arrow is blue axis, the right arrow is red axis and the left arrow is the green axis. By tapping them while performing something, locks it to that axis.

If you tapped the improper arrow, it can be re-tap to free the object or tap the arrow you intend to tap. It is also possible to lock an axis with the Shift key while aligned to an axis.

11. Multiple Copies: Initially, choose the object to be copied. Then, move it with move tool. Tap on the Ctrl button. It notifies the software that you prefer to copy the original. If you indicate a distance, suppose 1000mm, it copies it to that distance.

If multiple copies are needed, equally spaced apart, just provide the number of copies followed by an asterisk. As for instance, typing 10* and pressing enter would provide ten copies each at 1000mm from the previous one.

But, when 10 copies are required among the first and the last, within the 1000mm, type /10 to produce ten copies among the original two.

Bezier Triangle Tool – The newest sketchup extension

Bezier Triangle Tool is the newest sketchup extension to generate and edit flatten nonrational and rational Bézier triangle surfaces.

This extension is developed by Jacob Samuel and compatible with SketchUp 6, SketchUp 7, SketchUp 8, SketchUp 2013, SketchUp 2014, SketchUp 2015, SketchUp 2016, SketchUp 2017.

These surfaces can be scaled infinitely to facilitate creating more normal and complicated surfaces.

This extension is suitable to design structures without having a notably rectangular structure, and so rectangular patches are not treated as a natural choice for creating models of these complex geometries. They provide themselves simply to patches on spheres or quadrics.

The Bezier Triangle Tool is available in the Draw menu and in the Right Mouse Context Menu as soon as a Bezier triangle is produced or edited apply this tool is chosen.

By selecting Draw->Bezier Triangle, a default rational Bezier triangle will be drawn around the origin and keep you into the editing tool for the newly drawn surface.

Select a current Bezier triangle drawn/edited with this tool and applying Edit Bezier Triangle in the Right Mouse Button context menu will also set off the editing tool for the chosen triangle.

With the purpose of altering the weight of a non-end control point, hover the cursor over the control point to alter the weight of it so as to highlight it in green, put the new weight required for it, devoid of shifting the cursor away from the control point, and press enter or return to modify the shape of the triangular surface.

With the editing tool, it is also possible to choose either one of the 10 control points or one of the 18 lines of the control grid which are shifted to control the Bezier triangle as per your requirements.

Inferencing is also possible when the chosen point is shifted together with inference locking with the Shift key. If the Esc key is pressed throughout a move, the surface will reset to the way it was prior to the move initiated.

Bezier Surfaces from Curves – The newest sketchup extension

Jacob Samuel has developed Bezier Surfaces from Curves. It is the newest sketchup extension that is compatible with SketchUp 2015, SketchUp 2016, SketchUp 2017.

The extension is used to generate and edit different types of Bezier surfaces out of Bezier curves, arcs, circles and lines.

This extension includes a toolbar and items to the Draw as well as Right Mouse Button Context menus with tools to produce Ruled Rectangle, Translational Rectangle, Coons Rectangle, Ruled Triangle and Coons Triangle rational Bezier surfaces out of bounding non-rational and rational Bezier curves, arcs, circles and lines.

The types of surfaces to be produced (availability of the tools) are based on the number of curves chosen and provided that they allocate common endpoints.

As soon as the surface is generated, the tools will assign you into the editing tool for the surface drawn afresh. If required, the surface is edited according to your choice by shifting the points or lines of the resultant control net or modifying the "weights" of the control points.

Inferencing can be accessed if a control point or line is shifted along with inference locking with the Shift key. If you press the Esc key throughout a move, the surface will be reset to the way it was prior to the starting of move./p>

With the purpose of modifying the weight of a non-end control point, hover the cursor over the control point for which the weight should be altered in order that it is featured in green, put the new weight you prefer for it, devoid of moving the cursor ahead of the control point, and press enter or return to affect the shape of the surface.

Afterward, choosing an obtainable Bezier surface drawn/edited with these tools and applying Edit Rational Bezier Surface or Edit Bezier Triangle in the Right Mouse Button Context menu will also activate the editing tool for the chosen surface.
