Alex Schreyer
has developed Place Shapes Toolbar. It is the newest sketchup plugin that
supports SketchUp 8, SketchUp 2013, SketchUp 2014, SketchUp 2015, SketchUp
2016, SketchUp 2017.
The extension includes a toolbar (and some menu items) that can be
used to simply set various common 3D shapes (geometric primitives). With this
toolbar, the sketchup users can accomplish fast “solids-based” modeling to deal
with added and subtracted primitives that can produce a precisely watertight
object ideal for 3D printing.
Prior to arrange the shapes, one can opt for a base unit: foot,
inch, mm, cm, m.
To start with, just display the “Place Shapes” toolbar and click
on the shape that should be placed. Otherwise apply the Draw menu’s items. Most
shapes will adjust themselves on the basis of the elementary geometry. It is
also possible to arrange numerous shapes by opting for the select tool (or
press the space bar or the Esc key) when you have finished.
As soon as a
shape is placed, apply the move and scale tools to function on the shape. If a
shape fails to work as per your requirement, right-click on it and choose
“Unglue”. It is found that while placing any of the shapes, they all adhere to
the elementary geometry. It is also possible to always break out a shape (by
applying the right-click menu) to function with its raw geometry.
While choosing a
base unit from the dialog, all following placements will get that unit. The
items which are already arranged, don't scale. This feature will be useful for
creating model of the small stuff (e.g. for 3D printing) or large stuff (e.g.
buildings).
